Boyd @ Pilot Point: 57-26 final

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Finally, a win at Massey Stadium!

Pilot Point leaves tonight with its second win of the season, first at home, to improve to 2-3 entering its bye week.

Jeshua Price continued to dominate the offensive side of the ball, running in the final touchdown from 70 yards out on the first play of a drive late in the fourth quarter.

The Bearcats’ defense almost knocked out Colton Lyon, who had a hard time getting up after a tackle and limped off the field clearly winded. Lyon’s roar couldn’t be silence completely (get it? couldn’t resist), he still came back for a few more runs.

Tonight also marked the lowest point total allowed by the Bearcats’ defense. Interesting note: assistant coach Juan Silva is now acting as defensive coordinator instead of Jeff Smiley, who came to the Cats from Callisburg during the offseason. Smiley is still on staff. More details to come as Silva and Feldt would not completely address the changes, but at least acknowledged them.

Also good to see the Bearcats shake off the number 35 and breakthrough for nearly 60 points. The Bearcats scored 35 points exactly in its first three games, and then 29 last week against Nolan.

Pilot Point now has two weeks before hosting Sanger to open district as a 3A school. Will be a very, very high octane matchup with Sanger QB Dane Evans leading the 3A metroplex in passing. The No. 2 guy behind Evans? None other than Price, who actually moved to PP from Sanger in the summer of 2009 – I’m already rubbing my hands together in anticipation!

Thanks for following the few updates made tonight from Massey – still have to give a shout out to Tilley @ Golden Chick for his Internet, as hard as it is to catch it up in the press box. Much love to the golden chicken :)

Boyd @ Pilot Point: Halftime

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Woohoo, finally back online, and it’s 29-12 at the half!

Pilot Point has come to play, sharp out of the gate, with four touchdowns in the first half, three thanks to Mason Guthrie. Guthrie took off for more than 50 yards after a screen from quarterback Jeshua Price on the opening drive, and then Price found Guthrie in the end zone on the second drive for a 14-0 lead.

Colton Lyon is still proving dangerous on the ground. He’s scored Boyd’s only two touchdowns tonight. At least he’s not running for 140-something yards tonight like last November.

Boyd got on the board in the second quarter on a run from Lyon, but the Bearcats responded with a pass to Austin Balderas in the end zone from 28 yards out.

Lyon ran in one more time after escaping nearly all the Bearcats, but Guthrie ran in from one yard out with less than 10 seconds left in the half to put us where we are now, 29-22. Price passed to Austin Trinklein for the extra two points.

So far, so good for Pilot Point. The O-line has gotten a pair of holding calls that could have back tracked the drives, but is holding up and allowing Price to spread the ball around as well as run it up and down the field. Price has only thrown four incompletions and no picks yet.

Also around the district, Aubrey is down 30-20 at halftime during its home game with Grandview. Grandview scored on the first play of the game, but the Chaparrals responded with Justin Griffin touchdown. Grandview scored a field goal, but Aubrey’s QB, James Wurster ran in a touchdown to put them up 13-10.

Grandview made a long pass to go up 16-13 (they missed the extra point), and then scored again on a long run to go up 22-13. Aubrey scored on a pass from Wurster, but remained down 23-20.

Grandview made another long pass to put them up 30-20 at the half.

Seven minutes left in the half. Keep your fingers crossed for another spurt of stable Internet for another post on the action!

Boyd @ Pilot Point: Here we go!

Friday, September 24th, 2010

Hello from Massey Stadium! We’ve got about 20 minutes to kickoff, the rain seems to be on it’s way out and the teams have marched off the field ready to burst back on the scene through the tunnels.

Tonight’s our first go at live blogging, and should the Internet hold (shout out to Stuart Tilley and the good guys at Golden Chick), we’ll bring scoring updates, halftime and postgame reports.

Pilot Point (1-3) is a team needy for a win after the loss to Nolan last week. Boyd, also 1-3, is a team in need of a W, too, and is ready for the opp to get that win over a team that’s knocked them out of the playoffs the last two years.

Willie Davis could be seen suited up and warming up earlier tonight, which means he’s back from the sprained knee he suffered at Celina two weeks ago. Couldn’t find Jacob Lock, who broke his finger against Iowa Park, although head coach Blake Feldt seemed to think he’d be back for tonight when we talked earlier this week.

Last time these two teams met, it turned into a track meet, in the words of Feldt. Graduation hit Boyd hard as well as Pilot Point, but my money’s on the Cats tonight. The defense is ready to make a stand after allowing more than 100 points over the first four games. Boyd QB Tim Fleming is gone, but Colton Lyon is back, and as long as the Cats contain him at running back and watch out for him at linebacker, I think Pilot Point enters the bye week on a high note.

Time for school songs and the national anthem – see you @ first quarter!

P.S. just found out FM 89.1 from Weatherford is here in the box broadcasting the game if anyone wants to see if they can pick it up on their radios. Don’t abandon the blog, tho – stay tuned for more from The Post-Signal!
