The Pilot Point Bearcats fall athletics had a solid season, with members of the football and volleyball teams being recognized for their outstanding performances.

The Bearcats football program finished fourth in 6-3A Division I and had 10 players named to the all-district team, with four more selected as honorable mentions for their outstanding play.

Junior defensive end Caden David headlined Pilot Point’s honorees, being named the district’s Defensive Newcomer of the Year with 88 tackles, including 25 tackles for loss and 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries.

Caden was joined on first team all-district by running back Josh Chumley (So.), offensive lineman Juan Mendoza (Sr.), safety Ashton Williamson (Jr.) and linebackers Dawson David (Sr.) and Elijah Jackson (Jr.).

Chumley, who became the Bearcats’ first rusher to cross the 1,000-yard mark since 2020, finished the season with 1,296 yards and 11 touchdowns on the ground.

Mendoza was one of the key pieces for that production and helped anchor the front for a Bearcats’ offense that put up over 3,000 yards and 32 touchdowns.

Williamson compiled 114 tackles and 2 interceptions.

Jackson amassed 138 tackles, including 20 tackles for loss and 3 sacks, and Dawson gathered 104 tackles, with 1 sack and 1 interception.

Defensive back Hunter Newman (Jr.), offensive lineman Alex Luna (So.), quarterback Garrett Evans (Jr.) and tight end Dylan Hamblin (Sr.) were named to second team all-district.

The Bearcats’ honorable mentions include defensive end Jason Rangel (Jr.), defensive back Lane Eft (Jr.), offensive lineman Daniel Medrano (So.) and kicker Anthony Torres (Jr.).

The Lady Cats volleyball program finished fifth in 10-3A Region II, with three players recognized as alldistrict honorable mentions and eight players earning academic all-district honors.

The Lady Cats’ top honorees were setter Braillen Brocato (Sr.), middle Brianna Heitzman (Sr.) and outside hitter Shannon Taylor (So.), who were named as honorable mentions for the all-district team.

Brocato paced the offense with 138 assists and contributed 52 digs during the district portion of the season.

Heitzman made her presence all over the floor with 75 digs, 28 kills and 9 blocks.

The final member of the trio of honorees, Taylor, contributed 112 digs and 36 kills.

Brocato, Heitzman, Taylor, Hailey Diaz (Sr.), Raven Glacy (So.), Anneliese Helton (Sr.), Yesenia Hernandez (Sr.) and Sophia Sheeder also brought home academic all-district honors.
