Public officials should serve all
I listened to the Mayor’s recent “Live with the Mayor” and was disturbed by things she said.
I live in Mobberly Farms. I heard her talk about who should run for council, and the strong implied message was that people who live in Mobberly Farms don’t really know or embrace the culture of Pilot Point.
I also drew from those comments that I, or others from Mobberly Farms should not run for council, because we don’t “get” Pilot Point. That’s highly disappointing to hear our mayor generalize our part of Pilot Point that way.
I am regularly involved with the city by attending council meetings and serving on P&Z and attended many meetings including Charter and Governance discussion meetings.
I read and heard her use the term “haters” on her Mayor FB page. Doesn’t she realize that we are ALL citizens of Pilot Point and are entitled to our opinions as well? If people disagree with her, why are they a hater? If we are a hater, does what we think count less than those who support her?
With recent events, most specifically the attempted recall, she aligned herself with the people who signed the petition and challenged the remaining council who wanted more information.
I spoke to many of the council, only to learn that they received calls from many citizens who were against the recall effort because they didn’t believe it was valid.
Shouldn’t all of the citizens be taken in account when making a decision? In this case, the council (except mayor) said it had legal concerns, and I believe they did the right thing by sending to others who could legally determine its validity.
I don’t appreciate and am tired of the mayor being so rude and disrespectful to those who don’t agree with her. I am grateful for the council who consider ALL citizens before making a decision on behalf of the city.
