Chaps, Lady Chaps earn honors

The Aubrey athletic program hit the ground running this fall, with stellar seasons from its volleyball and football teams, resulting in multiple members of both squads being named to their respective all-district teams.

The Lady Chaps finished as the champions of District 9-4A Region II, with seven selections for the all-district team, four honorable mentions and 15 team members named academic alldistrict.

Senior middle Kynadi Hall and junior setter Baylee Hampton headlined the Lady Chaps list of honorees, with both being named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s All-State Team.

Hall, who led the Lady Chaps with 600 kills, 452 digs and 125 blocks, was also elected to the UIL 4A Division II Volleyball State Championship All-Tournament Team and was named the district’s Most Valuable Player.

Hampton was also honored as the district’s Setter of the Year after generating 1,261 assists, 452 digs and 115 kills.

Senior defensive specialist Gracie Michael was recognized as the district’s Server of the Year, finishing the season with 74 aces.

The outside hitter duo of senior Abby Wright (331 kills, 125 digs and 46 blocks) and sophomore Chloe Miller (441 kills, 364 digs and 62 aces) were named first-team All-District.

Senior libero Samantha Williams (534 digs) and junior middle Kylie Miller (212 kills, 81 blocks and 65 digs) were named second-team All-District.

All-District honorable mentions for the Lady Chaps were— senior Alayna McMullen; junior Addy Cagle; and sophomores Ava Thompson and Jentry Runion.

All aforementioned players, along with Lulu King, Emily Shearer, and team managers Abby Lynch-Buxton and Kenzie Temple, earned Academic All-District honors.

Hall, King, Michael, McMullen and Wright earned Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State honors.

The Chaparrals’ football program finished fourth in its district and had 14 players named to the All-District Team, six honorable mentions and four members earning Academic All-District honors.

Senior athlete Tyler Brown led the way for the Chaps, being named Co-District Most Valuable Player, sharing the title with fellow senior utility player Colton Rodriguez of Celina.

Brown set new program records for most receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns in a single season with 77 catches for 1,373 yards and 20 touchdowns while also collecting 28 tackles, four interceptions and nine pass deflections as a defensive back.

The Chaps’ veterans led the way, with all the first team selections being seniors— quarterback Brock Temple; running back La’Braylon Bell; guard Luke Bartel; safety Jeremiah Harper; corner Mustapha Corr; and linebackers Toby Davis and Cameron Sanders.

Temple also set new single-season records for the program with 3,098 yards and 37 touchdowns through the air.

Bell led the team in rushing with 819 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.

Harper led the Chaps on the defensive side of the ball with 87 tackles, including 4 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles and 3 pass deflections.

Corr had 31 tackles, 7 pass deflections and 1 interception.

Cameron Sanders was the team’s second-leading tackler with 86 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles, and Davis with 85 tackles, adding 13 tackles for loss, 7 forced fumbles, 5 sacks and 1 interception.

Second team selections include—senior running back Alex Osterman (806 rushing yards; 7 TDs), senior defensive tackle Brayden Hamilton (56 TKL; 18 TFL; 7 SK), senior defensive end Jaedon Bogar (21 TKL; 3 TFL; 3 SK), junior defensive end Logan Gannon (25 TKL; 11 TFL; 5 SK), junior linebacker Camron Haygood (57 TKL; 11 TFL; 2 INT), and junior center Elliot Kinney.

Senior defensive tackle Eli Bland, sophomore linebacker Jaxson Duramus, sophomore safety Luke Hellman and sophomore kicker Peyton Campbell were named as All-District Honorable Mentions.

Senior defensive back Nathan Hough, Temple, Osterman and student trainers Brooke McAlister and Lulu King received Academic All-State honors.
