This time of year can feel like whiplash at times.
We rush and rush and rush to get everything done, and then the holidays hit and it's time to pause and breathe for a bit.
If you try to come by the Post-Signal for the next few days, our office will likely be closed.
That's because our staff is taking some much-needed time to connect with family and to have a few days away from the deadline-driven work we do each week.
Over my years at the paper, I've worked with some wonderful people who have poured their hearts into the communities

we cover.
This, though, is the best team I've had, and we're lucky, too, to have some of the best contributors working with us as well.
It takes all of us—three fulltime employees, two part-time employees, a host of photographers who we can call on and a web freelancer—to produce the paper each week.
The reality is that comes at a price.
The newspaper industry as a whole hasn't been the best at keeping up with the economy, valuing ourselves enough or compensating our staff enough. All of that is to say starting in the new year, the price of the paper per copy will go to $1.50 to help keep pace with the expenses that have increased in recent years. In February, that increase will also translate to an increase in the subscription fee.
This will be the first time since Dec. 5, 2014, that the Post-Signal has increased its cover price.
Postage and printing are two that have steadily increased through my seven years at the paper, not to mention trying to care for that personnel I mentioned above.
I didn't want prices to change without being transparent about the reasons.
We all see the impact increased costs have on the market.
We value the work we put into these pages week after week, and we appreciate that the community values our work as well.
