19th Century Club provides community workers lunch
The 19th Century Club of Pilot Point took the time Jan. 8 to recognize community workers as part of an annual tradition.
At its annual Community Workers Appreciation Luncheon, municipal workers from police and fire to Public Works and office staff joined the ladies of the 19th Century Club and various community leaders for a spread of myriad soups, chilis and desserts as the club's way of saying thank you.
“We have a lot of chilies, soup, deserts, cookies, crackers, chips, and all the fixings for those things,” 19th Century Club President Paula McCoy said.
The workers were all smiles as they mingled with the ladies, enjoyed lunch and took a load off while taking a moment to be served by members of the community they serve every day.
“We always appreciate free food,” Public Works employees Steven McGuire said. “It's always nice feeling loved. Usually, we’ll get some when we have a water leak or something, people will say something nice, but this is a little different than someone passing out bottles of water.”
Although the smorgasbord was the larger gesture, the ladies of the club were also quick to make sure no one took a seat without a drink in hand as they a time volunteers, too. It’s a way to pay it back. It’s just a small gesture, but we enjoy doing it.”
