Here’s my side of it
My response to the article titled, “Mayor faces ethics filings.”
Monica David filed two complaints against me to the Texas Ethics Commission (TEC) in August.
Through the PP grapevine, it was communicated to me that Monica was saying, “Elisa must be guilty because she has lawyered up.”
I didn’t lawyer up. The first complaint was DISMISSED immediately.
I have been working intently with the TEC since August.
This case is not closed because it must go to the commission in March, but my work is done.
The TEC’s comments were, “Based on her (Mayor Beasley) response to the complaint and conversations with TEC staff, there is no reason to believe that the respondent deliberately attempted to conceal or obscure her activity. Rather, these violations appear to stem from the respondent’s failure to fully inform herself of her reporting obligations. Additionally, a significant portion of the amount were funds that the respondent deposited into her campaign account from her personal funds. Since the funds did not come from a third-party and the respondent had no intention of reimbursing herself she did not realize that she had to report these deposits. The respondent also took steps to correct her reports and even proactively filed missing reports that were not identified in the complaint.”
I will always take accountability.
I did not file all the reports.
I am now fully knowledgeable of reporting and intend to be the leader in precise and accurate financial reports.
I hope the Post-Signal will be encouraged to latch on to headlines like, “Mayor helps bring Home grant to Pilot Point residents” or “Mayor works with Small Businesses across the country to make a home in Pilot Point.”
These aren’t just delicious headlines, they are life-giving to our community!
