The Providence Village Town Council adjusted development zoning to ensure a future daycare goes in a preferred location during its Jan. 21 meeting.
At a development located West of FM 2931, South of Fishtrap, and East of Oak Grove Parkway, City Manager Brian Roberson reported the developer had interest in positioning a daycare near prime commercial real estate.
“Somehow it ended up in B2, that’s not where we want it,” Roberson said. “We would prefer to have it off the main road and away from locations that could be utilized for other commercial development. The developer has submitted an amendment to put it back in the original area we planned for it to be in.”
Before council made a motion, council member Klayton Rutherford asked a clarifying question.
“Just to be clear, not doing this would not mean no daycare, it would just mean the daycare is where we don’t want it,” Rutherford asked.
Roberson confirmed followed by approval from council.
Rounding out the agenda, council again looked at Planning and Zoning appointments following concerns from Mayor Linda Inman regarding Rachel Tracey, a previous board member, and her negative comments on social media towards the town at the council’s Dec. 17 meeting.
Inman said she had since spoken privately with Tracey.
“I did speak to candidate Rachel Tracey who I had expressed some concerns about,” Inman said. “We had a very good conversation and my concerns were put to rest so in someone were to nominate her I would fully support her. I think she has been a good asset to PandZ over the years.”
With a prompt motion from council member Dustin Clay, council reappointed Tracey to the board.
