The Aubrey Lady Chaps and Pilot Point Lady Cats soccer teams met for a district matchup Tuesday night, and the Lady Chaps took care of business, beating the Lady Cats 10-0.

The Lady Chaps raced out to an early lead, scoring in the first 22 seconds of the match, and never looked back, collecting their fourth district win of the season.

“We showed up and played really well from the beginning,” Aubrey head girls soccer coach Kelli Baker said. “I challenged them to come out fast. We started slowly in the past three games and had to fight back in each game [but] tonight scored three goals in the first three minutes, and that set the tone for the rest of the game.”

Lady Chaps team co-captain Brynlee Bohannon started the scoring barrage for her team, scoring within the first few seconds of the match.

Freshmen Daniella Dominic- Etul and Kali Madden would add two more goals, putting Aubrey up 3-0 early in the first half.

The Lady Chaps continued to pour on the offensive pressure and went into the half leading the Lady Cats 8-0.

Aubrey added two more goals in the second half to take the 10-0 victory.

Senior and co-captain Macy Childers led the Lady Chaps with four goals and three assists.

“It wasn’t just a me thing,” Childers said. “My teammates came out ready to play. We were all excited to play and take a win tonight.”

Baker highlighted the performances of his captains and senior Payton Johnson, who received the team’s “Baller on a Budget” award for her play.

“We wanted to highlight the girls that come out and perform above and beyond the norm, so it goes to those girls that step up each game,” he said. “[Payton] doesn’t usually play a ton of minutes, but she stepped up tonight and got her first goal of the season. She’s really been a light for the team.”

Johnson said she was honored to receive the award.

“I feel grateful for it,” she said. “My team has always been there for me, and I love them and love that they support me no matter what and helped me get that goal.”

For the Lady Cats, head coach Jessica Ledbetter emphasized that despite the loss her team will continue to work hard and get better each day.

“The scoreboard doesn’t define who we are,” she said. “We still represent our school with pride and play with passion and heart. We’re going to get up, and we’re going to play again on Friday, and we’re going to play the very best we can. … We’re going to work to strive to get better every time we touch the soccer ball.”

Pilot Point will play Celina at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Massey Stadium, and Aubrey will go on the road to face off with Panther Creek at 10 a.m. Saturday.
