A shed fire on McKinney Street Monday afternoon received a quick response from the Pilot Point Fire Department.

The short-lived fire sent smoke billowing high enough to be seen from Washington Street, though the resident, Billy Lockhart, said he was unaware of how it began.

“I just heard a big pop and looked out there and saw it on fire,” Lockhart said.

Assistant Chief Bryan Cox has often spoken about how easy it is for sheds to catch fire given the number of accelerants often housed in them, though could not conclude the blaze’s cause in this case.

“There was evidence of propane heaters, aerosol and propane cans, so it’s going to be an undetermined,” Cox said. “There is no way to determine which component actually set the fire in motion.”

When asked if there was any indication that this was a drug-related incident, Cox said “with what [he] saw in the debris” he could not draw that conclusion.
