Another fatality occurred along U.S. 377 on March 12, this time in Krugerville.
Officers arrived at 7:44 p.m. to find a pair of vehicles, an SUV and a truck, and three victims involved.
“It was two, a grandmother and one other, … and the one in the truck,” KVPD Chief James Edland said. “The pickup was northbound and veered into the southbound lane of traffic and caused a head-on collision.”
The driver in the truck passed away on the scene, while the two people in the SUV were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
“We still have some questions, and a lot is going to be what the occupants of the other vehicle can tell us,” Edland said. “Hopefully, we can get some more information once she can talk.”
Before officers arrived, a pair of good samaritans stopped to offer assistance.
“The pickup was initially on its side and a guy stopped to help upright the vehicle, and another note said an offduty nurse had stopped and was rendering aid until the EMS arrived,” Edland said.
Edland explained the department has no reason at present to believe the pickup’s driver was under the influence.
“At this point, no one said they smelled any alcohol,” Edland said. “We don’t know if it was a medical deal or something else was going on. We’re just going to have to wait for the ME’s report before we can say anything. We’re just not sure.”
