LETTERS TO THE EDITOR OPINION
Being good old boy shouldn’t be slur
Daddy was a good old boy. Billy Gene Jenkins was born to a farming family and raised in Pilot Point. After graduating from PPHS in 1950, he joined the Army and fought on the front lines in the frigid hell of Korea. He married, raised six kids, loved his family, and worked hard every day. Daddy hunted and fished every chance he got, loved every sport in existence, and spent the rest of his time outdoors tending his garden, lawn, and flowers.
Billy Jenkins loved his hometown all the days of his life. Upon his passing and per his wishes, he returned to Pilot Point and was laid to rest at Belew Cemetary, where his family, friends, and even some classmates from PPHS ‘50 gathered to say goodbye.
Yes, Daddy was a good old boy.
So, the next time someone turns the words “good old boy” into a hateful slur, do it with the clear understanding Jackie Jenkins Pilot Point
of who is being insulted.
