Student brings gun to AHS

An Aubrey High School student was found with a handgun at school April 2.

No students or teachers were harmed, though the student was arrested.

“Thanks to the swift action of our school district police department and administration, it was quickly confiscated,” Superintendent Dr. Shannon Saylor said. “As soon as we received information about the possibility of a weapon on campus, our team acted decisively to ensure the safety of all students and staff.”

Under Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the district is not required to disclose the name of the student. The district has not currently released any information about the student’s reason for bringing the gun to school.

“The safety and security of our school community is our highest priority,” Saylor said. “We take incidents like this very seriously and are conducting a thorough investigation,” Saylor said. “The student involved will face disciplinary and criminal action in accordance with district policy and the law.”

Saylor urged district parents to “remind their students about the importance of school safety and the need to report any concerns to a trusted adult.”
